John 14:25-26
I have said these things to you while I am still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I have said to you.
WORDS OF HOPE
Once a long time ago when I was still a teenager and an amateur magician, I was competing in a statewide contest. I had designed a comedy magic act in which everything would go wrong. To anyone other than magicians it would be strange, but to an audience of people who knew how the tricks worked it would be funny, so I thought.
I was getting ready to go onstage and noticed that all the threads and special effects I had arranged beforehand to make props move and the gags work had been cleared away by the stage crew. I panicked. Luckily, my dad was in the wings and he offered me some old showbiz advice, “the show must go on!”
So, I went onstage and faked my way through the performance hearing his voice in my head as I continued. Apparently, I didn’t need the gags and special effects. The crowd was laughing and applauding everything I did. I went on to win the award as Junior Magician of the Year.
Sometimes my dad’s voice still rings in my ears. That memory is probably what Jesus meant about his teachings. They ring in my ears as well, reminding me of what he said.
PRAYER
May we be open to hearing the Holy Spirit as it advises us, and may we seek to follow its guidance.
Amen
