Black History Month Moments

Philippa Whitfield: Serving with Purpose and Passion

The Hope For All Colors Advocacy Group proudly recognizes Philippa Whitfield for her invaluable service and profound impact on our community.

Philippa has been deeply committed to serving Cathedral of Hope and its mission since joining in 2016. From 2018 to 2022, she warmly welcomed congregants as a church greeter. Additionally, from 2017 to 2022, she volunteered with iCARE, working to combat food insecurity.

Philippa’s journey with Hope For All Colors began at its inaugural meeting in 2017. She has since spearheaded numerous initiatives that continue to uplift the community. One of her most impactful contributions was establishing partnerships with local schools. Under her leadership, Hope For All Colors first partnered with Onésimo Hernández Elementary School, providing essential support to students and teachers. When the school closed, she ensured that outreach continued by forging a new partnership with Burnet Elementary School.

Dedicated to ensuring children have the resources they need for academic success, Philippa launched a student reading club and initiated a backpack and school supply drive – efforts that were later embraced by the entire church for Burnet Elementary School. She also established a relationship with the North Texas Food Bank to distribute food to Burnet Elementary families.

Her leadership has also been pivotal in community engagement and social justice initiatives. She played a key role in planning Juneteenth and Kwanzaa celebrations and contributed to impactful programs such as Empowering Voices for Justice and Dallas Dinner Table, fostering meaningful conversations about racial equity and social change.

Join us in honoring Philippa Whitfield – not only for her extraordinary service but for the hope and inspiration she brings to all she touches. Her philanthropy is a shining example of Black excellence, encouraging us all to serve with purpose and passion

Roger Poindexter: Commanding and Inspiring

The Hope For All Colors Advocacy Group proudly honors Roger Poindexter for his outstanding contributions and unwavering dedication to service.

Representation matters—and Roger Poindexter embodies that truth with grace and purpose. Standing at six feet tall, his presence is both commanding and inspiring. His polished demeanor, steadfast commitment, and quiet strength reflect the very essence of Black excellence and leadership at the highest level.

As a devoted member of Cathedral of Hope (CoH) since 2000, Roger has faithfully served in numerous capacities, leaving an indelible mark on the church and the congregation.

He is a founding member of the Hope For All Colors Advocacy Group and his leadership has been evident as an usher, a member of the Development Committee, and a respected voice on the Ministry Advisory Council. He joined the CoH Board of Stewards in 2003 and co-chaired the Pastoral Search Committee in 2015. After serving on the Pastoral Relations Committee, he returned to the Board of Stewards in 2016, culminating in the role of Board Chair until the conclusion of his tenure in 2023. Today, he continues to lead by offering spiritual guidance as a Life Group Leader and serving as a Lay Minister of Worship (LMOW) on Sunday mornings.

Roger’s legacy extends far beyond the walls of Cathedral of Hope. A tireless advocate for justice and equality, he played a pivotal role in Lambda Legal’s Dallas Leadership Committee before joining its National Board of Directors, where he co-chaired the Administration and Finance Committee and served on the Executive Committee until 2010. His passion for service has also driven him to contribute as a board member of Dallas Hope Charities and the Turtle Creek Chorale. Currently, he serves as Vice President of the Board for
Elevate North Texas, championing causes such as the fight against youth homelessness.

We celebrate Roger Poindexter not only for his extraordinary contributions to Cathedral of Hope and the broader community, but also for the powerful example he sets every day.
He embodies Black excellence, proving that leadership, service, and integrity are not just aspirations but a way of life.

Roger, we honor you for your unwavering commitment to our church and community. Your impact is profound, and your legacy is an inspiration to us all.

She is not only known for her volunteerism, but also for her quiet yet powerful whispers of encouragement and support.

Kasandra’s impact on Cathedral of Hope (CoH) is profound. She volunteered for Breakfast at Cathedral of Hope during the 2020 pandemic and later became a greeter when in-person services resumed.
