Volunteers making and packing meals for Taste of Hope

A Taste of Hope

Every Tuesday, between 2pm and 5pm, volunteers gather to cook, package, and deliver hot meals to those experiencing food insecurity in Dallas.

This ministry of our church was founded by CoH member the late John Erdos with seed money of just $100. He purchased and prepared 76 meals in his own kitchen that he distributed to needy folks on the streets of Dallas.

Since John's first effort, the program has grown so much that over 26,000 meals were delivered in 2024!

Cathedral of Hope Food Pantry

Pack the Pantry

We regularly open our food pantry to those experiencing food insecurity. The last Sunday of each month, donations of non-perishable food brought in by the congregation, are collected and shelved by the Pack the Pantry Team. Pantry volunteers distribute bags of the food items and toiletries on Monday mornings during iCARE to folks experiencing food insecurity. Over 5,000 bags were distributed in 2024.

Pantry recipient Chuck stated: “When I was between jobs and was struggling, Cathedral of Hope helped me survive until I could get back on my feet.”

Seasonal and Special Distribution Programs

Thanksgiving Baskets

Each year our congregation collects and shares hundreds of baskets of food providing a Thanksgiving Feast for those who are in need.

These special baskets contain all the ingredients for a traditional Thanksgiving feast and will feed a family of four for several days. The generosity of our members makes hundreds of these baskets available each year and many in the local community depend on these. Your generosity is a blessing to so many, in 2024 we distributed over 510 Thanksgiving baskets equivalent to 2,040 meals.

Join us next fall when we hope to help even more folks!

Hope GYFTS (Giving You Food To Share) Food Rescue

Thursdays about mid-day we have a food distribution pop-up here at CoH. The rescued fresh fruits, vegetables, breads, pastries, meats and other items are given to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. This is accomplished by volunteers who pack and distribute boxes of items to folks who have claimed a box using the EETZ rescue mobile app. Find out more CLICK HERE.

The Hope GYFTS program has been so successful that 1,296,841 pounds of food was rescued and given away in 2024. Which is the equivalent to 1,076,378 meals, and has a value of $2,256,503. (Based on Feeding America's standard of $1.74/lb.)

Evelyn Pruitt HIV/AIDS

Assistance Fund

The story of Evelyn Pruitt is truly one of faith, hope and love. During the height of the AIDS crisis when Evelyn saw the thousands of people suffering and dying in our community, she took action to try and help. She created the Evelyn Pruitt HIV/AIDS Assistance Fund to help people living with HIV/AIDS with rent and living expenses.

Since its inception, many folks have been helped through this program. Our most recent records indicate over 600 people have received assistance since 2017. $11,660 in rental or utility assistance was given in 2024.

Blessing Bags

Have you ever driven past a person in need and wondered what you could do to help? A blessing bag is a small assortment of basic toiletries and snacks in a sealable plastic bag. Keep one or two of these blessing bags in your car to have on hand! Over 4,400 Blessing Bags were made by the congregation and given to those in need in 2024.

Several times a year, we gather to create blessing bags for our neighbors in need. We’ll provide the items. You provide the people power. All ages welcome! You can pick up Blessing Bags to distributed on designated Blessing Bag Sundays or by calling the church office.

Serving and caring for others is a core part of who we are. Whether you are looking to serve or are experiencing a need, we have a place for you.
