SCRIPTURE
Luke 7:31-35
“To what, then, will I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like? They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to one another,
‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance;
we wailed, and you did not weep.’
“For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon’; the Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Nevertheless, wisdom is vindicated by all her children.”
WORDS OF HOPE
In my past I have worked on a lot of committees. Most of them were for activist causes or non-profits. I found that often, even though we were all working on the same cause and toward the same end, it was difficult to get everyone on the same page.
There were always a couple of folks who could find fault with whatever was proposed, and it frustrated me and the entire process. The discord often led to some knock-down, drag-out verbal bouts but in the end, we usually reached consensus and accomplished a lot of good things.
What usually calmed the disputes was going back to the basic reasons we were working in the first place. Remembering the reason we had come together usually trumped the clash of personalities and things got done.
PRAYER
God, may we remember that principals should always come before personalities in our decision making in our lives and in our faith. Let us remember to hear your message no matter how it is delivered. Amen.
