SCRIPTURE
Lamentations 33:22-24
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, God's mercies never come to an end; they are renewed every morning. Great is your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion; therefore, I will hope in God.
WORDS OF HOPE
We live in a world of uncertainty. Little around us seems very stable and the applecart of happiness can be overturned in a moment. But, when we recite the words of comfort from today’s reading, we acknowledge that God's love and mercies are infinitively adequate and they never cease to nurture us.
Some people utilize a string of prayer beads to memorize scripture passages with the repetition facilitating writing those words on their hearts. Meditative readings serve the same purpose.
Today’s meditative reading from Lamentations can be one of many individual pearls of spiritual wisdom which are strung together like a strand of prayer beads. All we have to do is find a quiet place in our minds to seal the verse in our memory like a pearl which we can hold tightly in our thoughts for times of uncertainty or fear.
Let’s read it again slowly, giving its depth our full attention: "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, God's mercies never come to an end; they are renewed every morning. Great is your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion; therefore, I will hope in God."
Our God is a rock of assurance on which we can stake our life and spiritual well-being. God's love and care for us are certain if we trust ourselves to the Divine and stay within the presence of those holy "hands". Often, people around us live fearful lives nurtured by sensationalist headlines or internet rumors, but that doesn’t need to be our fate. God's love and mercies never fail, and each morning that we remember and recite these words from Lamentations as our pearl of wisdom, we can be assured that God’s abundance awaits our needs.
PRAYER
God of mercy, may these comforting words from your books of wisdom help us to vibrantly live out that reality; that we may be a powerful witness of your presence to those individuals with whom we will interact throughout each day. May we bless others as you constantly bless us.
