SCRIPTURE
1 Corinthians 6.19-20
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So, glorify God in your body.
WORDS OF HOPE
Some thoughts about Love for the New Year
When you love someone, it’s like that person–at any moment–has the privilege of entering the sacred temple of your soul. In a way, they become the priests charged with preserving it.
I’ve learned the hard way, that people are people–regardless of how much you trust them with the task. No one is perfect or holy, but they tend to do the best they can.
Your temple, the place where you house your innermost thoughts and emotions, can be desecrated–even by those who have good intentions.
Your feelings are like the sacred artifacts of your temple. A good priest will preserve them on a shrine and keep them out of reach from laypeople, tend to and polish them, and protect them from thieves and brigands.
But it is you who has the most sacred task of being the high priest of your temple, because ultimately you live there, and it is your home.
Therefore, love and care for your temple, for it is the refuge of your very soul.
PRAYER
Loving and merciful Spirit, you have given us the most precious gift of love. Let us not bury it within ourselves. Help us to be vulnerable, and if we are injured for the sake of love, heal our hearts. Open our eyes to see the countless opportunities You have given us to love, and may we get it back a hundred-fold. Bless You Great Spirit for all that we shall receive. Amen.
