SCRIPTURE
1 John 4:18
“There is no fear in love; instead, perfect love drives out fear…”
WORDS OF HOPE
From the Battlefields
In an unknown hour, at a moment not of your choosing, and an unknown direction, with an unfamiliar appearance–and an overwhelming force¬–fear…waits for its hour, a moment of its choosing, in a direction it knows, by design–and will strike. And its weapon will falter and betray them…
What are you protecting? And whom? That is your resolve, and this is your strength. Love has never died; neither has it ever been vanquished off the face of the Earth. More than any other emotion, we return to love; parents and children, spouses for one another, teachers and students, first responders and their communities, and more–we all keep pressing into the unknown for someone we care about.
And love continues to be passed down from generation to generation. Without love, a house, a community, a town, a country…could not stand, for there would be nothing to build upon strong enough for true bravery to exist. Without the bravery of many people who came before us, who faced terrible evils–none of us would be here, now.
True bravery isn’t about one’s ability to win–it’s about facing anything and everything even if you think you can’t because, despite one’s weaknesses, it is not just simple bravado; it’s imperishable love. When fear stops you from moving, love charges forward against any enemy that stands in its way. And what’s meant to stop you becomes the very thing causing you to move. Every day, we have the chance to be brave for someone else, someone we care about, someone who can’t be brave for themselves. Rest assured when fear strikes–we’ll be ready for it.
PRAYER
Almighty God,
We praise You! For we are safeguarded by Your unfailing love for us. And Your mighty Spirit rests within us. Let Your love be our strength in the hour that our fears come upon us. Be the sharpest blade and the impenetrable shield. Help us to be courageous for this generation and the next. Thank you, God, amen.
