1 Corinthians 2. 4,5
…and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of people but in the power of God.
WORDS OF HOPE
One afternoon the sky seemed a bit dark in the distance, and it looked like the rain might pass when the storm unexpectedly turned, erupted with strong winds, causing a power outage.
Before I could find my flashlight, I sat in total darkness, without any familiar amenities or distractions and wondered what would it feel like to be without Gods power? When you’re used to having it and there is a spiritual outage you begin to realize how important it is to stay connected.
It’s easy to become too dependent upon worldly things but we can never become too dependent on God. The more we need God, the more power we get. It’s the magnificent irony of faith. God is faithful but not forceful with providing spiritual power and when we experience a spiritual outage, God is there to fully restore us. All we need do is ask.
Electricity is geared to keep our electronics going while Gods is a never-ending source of power for living. God’s love is the ultimate renewable energy and it’s free for the asking.
When nothing else seems to be working and we feel powerless, we can turn on our higher power and faith will light the way. Faith provides power to extend our natural abilities, overcome obstacles that seem insurmountable and give us hope. God’s power is there to remind us, we are never alone.
One Christmas I received a flashlight that plugs into a port like a phone. It has become an integral part of my life and symbolizes a cloudy time when personal gain took precedence over my spiritual life. Keeping it plugged in is necessary for power and so is keeping plugged in with God.
There will always be storms whether with nature or in our personal lives and one thing is certain, God will always be the faithful source of life and love.
PRAYER
God of all power, let us remember we can always “plug” into your everlasting source of comfort and strength, through the simple practice of prayer! In Jesus name, Amen
