INSPIRING LYRICS
My Grown-up Christmas List
by Kelly Clarkson
Do you remember me
I sat upon your knee
I wrote to you with childhood fantasies
Well I'm all grown up now
And still need help somehow
I'm not a child but my heart still can dream
So here's my lifelong wish
My grown up Christmas list
Not for myself but for a world in need
No more lives torn apart
That wars would never start
And time would heal all hearts
And everyone would have a friend
And right would always win
And love would never end, no
This is my grown-up Christmas list.
WORDS OF HOPE
As I spent November reflecting daily on my blessings and sharing thoughts on Facebook, I realized how amazing my life is. In this time of war in countries around the world, the mere fact we can step out of our homes without fear of a mortar exploding is a precious blessing beyond measure!
So my Christmas wish is to spend time with those I love and who love me and to try to spread God's love to those who will not have resources for a merry Christmas.
My church family is an amazing part of my family of choice. Spending time with those wonderful people fills my heart all year long. Together the church will be helping the hungry like they do all year long, but also providing blankets, coats and socks during winter.
I like to do things for people who are overlooked at holidays. Please join me by thinking how you can make someone's holiday better. Christmas cards or small gifts to elderly in nursing homes. Or prepare small gift boxes of gifts for the homeless like nail clippers, gum, pocket-pack of tissues, gloves, warm scarf or $5 gift card to Mc Donalds.
Or if you have the resources, if you know a teacher, ask if they know of a family who is in need and help give them gifts for Christmas. One year my neighbors supplied gifts for a child and their sibling and mother who had cancer. Several Christmases my best gift has been providing Christmas for another family!
If you think of people you know, there must be a person struggling you could give a Christmas card with a $20 bill (or more if you are able) inside to help them with their struggles to provide Christmas. Or take those cards with money to any ward at a children's hospital and ask the nurses to give them to the parents most in need. The amount might not solve their needs, but the idea that someone cares might lift their heart.
If you are in a small group, see how creative you can be. Our Circle used to save our loose change all year and bring it to our December meeting to combine and purchase either toys for a family or clothes for a person living with AIDS.
So, this is my grown-up Christmas wish. Won’t you help make it come true? We can’t arrange for world peace, but we can make a few more people know they are loved at this time of year.
PRAYER
God, show us how to bless those around us who lack the ability to provide for their families and to give cheer to those alone at Christmas.
