WORDS OF HOPE
Harmony
I can think of no message that is more important to our church and all Christians. There is much misery and fear in our world. No wonder so many people want to do something to make it better. That is a good thing. But sometimes, the optimistic solutions proposed by one group, cannot be welcomed by others who would be harmed by the change. As each interest group stands up to defend their own needs, we begin to form opposing forces, each ready to "fight" for our positions. We are encouraged by media and popular speakers the world over to fight.
I cannot claim to have a one-size-fits-all solution. I think any solutions, not founded and delivered in love are bound to fail. However, I firmly believe that within our families, friends, and especially in our church, we will have a great impact for Christ if we diligently live in harmony.
We can begin by making an honest commitment to God and ourselves that our interactions with others will be loving. Then, we can examine our behaviors often and carefully. Suppose there is a misunderstanding or problem in our relationship with another. In that case, we must go to that person and clear it up. If we have wronged someone, we acknowledge the wrong and make amends. Let's skip the blame even if we think the other person is at fault. Fix the relationship if possible. (That does not mean we should let anyone abuse us.) If we cannot resolve the issue, we can always ask for help. Harmony is worth the effort. It is vital to our mission of bringing God's love to those in need of it.
The beauty of harmony is that when we follow the "Jesus Way," our own life gets so much easier and more rewarding. It's another miracle!
PRAYER
Beloved God, thank you for teaching me about love. I am so grateful for all the love you have bestowed upon me and all the love you have sent me through others. Help me to become so filled with your loving spirit that I will notice if it is missing, even for a moment. Help me to realize quickly if my actions do not convey your love. Give me the courage and humility to clean up my messes. Create in me, and particularly in my church, a space where love and harmony abound. Amen
