Psalm 65.1-4
Praise is due to you, O God, in Zion,
and to you shall vows be performed.
O you who hear prayer,
to you shall all flesh come.
When iiniquities prevail against me,
you jatone for our transgressions.
Blessed is the one you choose and bring near,
to well in your courts!
We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house,
the holiness of your temple!
WORDS OF HOPE
One of the many themes I picked up on while reading this text is forgiveness. The Psalmist is saying that he owes God everything because it is God who made him who he is. It is because of forgiveness that he is allowed to come into the glorious courts of the divine temple of God in heaven. He can actually live in the presence of the eternal God who rules the earth. In his majesty, God still hears the prayers of those who serve God and comes to their aid when in need. Thus, God deserves God’s praise, both in songs and in his devotion of life. It can be said that out of the forgiveness he received he was overcome with thankfulness for the ways that God had worked in his life!
Another theme was that of redemption. Since it can be said that we were lost before Christ and now we are found that we owe God all ourselves as an outpouring of our love to the Holy One who loves us unconditionally. We lift up our voices in prayers those spoken and unspoken and God will still make sense of them. What an amazing transformative God!
God deserves our praise and our worship as we honor God in song, worship, action, words, and deeds. It is through the God’s bountiful gift of grace that God lives in our hearts and that we live in the heart of God. Therefore, let us cast our anxieties and fears aside and give thanks for the ways that God is with us and for us!
PRAYER
Let us pray: Most Gracious and Wondrous God, I give thanks for the people of faith who have been revealed in your word as they show us how to be your faithful people! It can be overwhelming when we try to compare ourselves to Paul, yet you remind us that we all bring different gifts to Your Table. Strengthen our faith as we continue to live out of our lives. In the Redemptive Name of Jesus, Amen.
