I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
WORDS OF HOPE
As we move from the Season of Advent into the joyful 12 Days of Christmastide, it’s a good time to relax and reflect on the lessons we learned during that contemplative Season when we awaited the birth of the baby who would become our redeemer. It’s time to consider the impact of that gift on our lives; time for action.
If we accept God's plan of action for us, it might take a lot longer than we would like to realize the benefit of our partnership with God. At the beginning of Advent, we related the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth who had to wait nine months for John the Baptist’s birth, and he had to grow into manhood before he became "the voice of repentance" as a prophetic preacher for God. They were old at the time of his birth and they were probably gone before he entered that adult stage of his life.
However, they lived with the promise of God even though they would not see it with their own eyes. It seems likely that Joseph also died before Jesus entered his age of ministry. And Mary had to endure the pain of witnessing her beloved son crucified. But Mary also lived to experience the confusion and joy of Jesus' resurrection.
When we accept God's will in our life and commit ourselves to it, we may have to wait to realize the success or benefit from it. Maybe we will see some results right away or perhaps we will never see the final results. But we must happily move onward, hoping for that which God asks of us, and living day by day in assurance that God will always bless our decision to live our lives as that babe in the manger would grow up to teach us to do.
PRAYER
Lord God, help me to live in grateful obedience to your voice this day. Give me strength to be Jesus to the world and keep persistent hope in what you desire of me. And may my action be founded in a strong trust that your intervention in my life will be good. Amen.
