WORDS OF HOPE
Today is NATIONAL WOMEN’S CHECKUP DAY.
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services promotes National Women’s Checkup Day and is part of National Women’s Health Week.
I celebrated checkup day already this year. I got my annual exam when my prescriptions were up for renewal. It becomes more interesting to get your annual exam when you are on Medicare. You must answer questions about how many times you have fallen in the last year and if you are afraid of falling! If she could have seen the crazy dance I did when I did not see the extension cord barrier across the street last week, she would know I am terrified of planting my face into the pavement! And yes, that has increased as I have aged.
You must answer questions about how well you can hear and whether people are afraid to ride in the car when you are driving!
But in spite of the questions for Medicare patients, it is important for all women to remember to take care of our health. We are usually the caretakers of life around us. But we need to care for ourselves to be able to care for others. I encourage all my Sisters to remember to get your annual exams including your mammogram.
At CoH we try our best to provide what care we can for our neighbors in need. On March 13 there were nurses from TWU who offered Health screenings to the guests at BACH (Breakfast at Cathedral of Hope). Whatever services we can provide with help from the community, we do our best.
Praise God that we can worship God through our care for ourselves and others! When we learn we are beloved of God, we learn how important it is to care for ourselves and for all of God’s beloved family.
PRAYER
God who wishes only the best for all your people. Help us remember to care for ourselves so we can care for those you send for us to share your love.
