James 4.3
You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.
WORDS OF HOPE
If we desire to be faithful to Christ Jesus, we must seek to successfully respond to all that God requests us to do. And one of the true blessings of such a lifestyle is the abundance of opportunities to be the "hands and heart" of God in this world. In our own strength and wisdom, we cannot expect to enjoy these chances to minister for God. Simply, we don't have enough physical and spiritual resources to accomplish much unless God puts the "right fuel" in our tank of life.
We must motor up to the divine gas station each morning and get our tank filled with God’s empowering fuel. It's a daily task; that's why this prayer is powerful. We seem to run out of adequate divine spiritual and physical strength by nightfall and need to be "topped off" each morning. If you try to run all day on a partial tank load of divinely empowered fuel, you probably will run out and won't make it. And when the God-sent opportunity arrives, you will fail to achieve all that you could.
Another important point, is to be specific. In the past when I prayed for daily fuel, I wasn't very specific about what I needed. I prayed for something nebulous like "give me all that I need to serve you". I've learned to be specific. God will tell you which "grade of octane" you need in the tank for the coming day. Some days, I emphasize my need for physical strength. On the days when I write these prayer readings for you, I specifically ask for spiritual fuel with a higher level of divine wisdom, words and inspiration. God will tailor make the proper spiritual fuel to assure that you can achieve success with each opportunity.
Often, as I drive through my daily life, I must ask God for a little "fuel boost" of a specific kind for an unexpected opportunity. Sometimes, I need a little boost of patience or insight for a specific situation. So, it all boils down to the quality of spiritual fuel you put in your tank. I guess it's a bit like a divine vitamin.
PRAYER
"May the living presence of Christ Jesus give me the words, wisdom and strength to achieve the opportunities you place in my life today."
