Proverbs 27:9
Friends give pleasant, sincere advice, seeking our highest good
WORDS OF HOPE
How do you spend your holidays? With family? We often spend ours with the family God has given us. Not the blood ones we were born into, but the ones who love us unconditionally and really wish to see us experience joy in all seasons!
Our Independence Day tradition is to see the neighborhood parade of kids and dogs and then have brunch with about 75 neighbors. Our neighborhood is a true neighborhood where people know and care for each other. On July 4th afternoon we go to our usual place to gather with wonderful friends and family of choice for an amazing potluck meal before we watch the boat parade with our Irving Circle. We used to be a study group like the current small groups at Cathedral of Hope. We are a family of choice who still do projects for church and support each other in prayer chains in times of need.
Thanksgiving for us has historically been celebrated by giving thanks as we help GIVE AWAY 500 baskets of complete Thanksgiving meal preparations through Cathedral of Hope on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. And on Thanksgiving Day we meet for our traditional Thanksgiving meal and watch TV football. When we actually spend Thanksgiving with related family, we miss being there for these special times, even though we love our biological family that includes us in holiday celebrations.
Other holidays are celebrated with family of choice most of the time. God is so good to give us amazing families of choice! We have some family that loves us unconditionally, but our church and our God given family make our lives complete and rich! Praises to God!
PRAYER
God of the most precious gifts. I thank you for the nonbiological family you have gifted me.
