SCRIPTURE
Psalm 119:108
O God, accept the willing tribute of my lips, and teach me your judgments.
WORDS OF HOPE
Has anyone ever told you “Let your conscience be your guide?” It’s an old phrase that we used to hear often, but in today’s internet world, there seems to be an excess of self-help teachers, politicians, evangelical clergy, movie critics, and news analysts who are more than willing to guide us toward their ways of thinking. Where do you turn for guidance?
The writer of Psalm 119 leaves no doubt from what source guidance flows best. What is your response as God's loving guidance teaches you to be more faithful in your Christian lifestyle? Do you simply learn and grow more by the experience, and then move directly on to something else; or do you pause to acknowledge God's involvement in your life? Today’s verse reminds us that your response should be one of thanks-filled praise.
Be grateful for each gift received! It may be as simple as: "thank you, God". However, even more blessings will be yours if you add additional spoken words and thoughts to that thanks, an expression of praise for divine goodness. Another worthy response might be your witness to others how God helped you or gave you another opportunity, etc.
Whenever you tell others about the providing love of God, you teach and bless their spiritual lives and also realize an additional blessing in your own life. Both of these responses to a loving God increase our consciousness of the divine presence in each moment-by-moment of life.
Now, here's a third response for God's goodness which may have slipped your mind... Sing a love song to Christ!! You may not remember all of the lyrics for hymns you have often sung in church, but most of us can remember enough to sin our love song. Put a tune and your best voice to your thanks.
"Great is thy faithfulness, O God..." "To God be the glory, great things have you done..." "O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the works thy hands have done." If you have a poor singing voice like mine, speak out loud your praise, or find a private place to "let it rip"; you might be just daring enough and sing it out loud to those around you! Whatever way you choose, give God the praise.
PRAYER
“How Great thou art…How GREAT thou art!” Amen
