SCRIPTURE
John 16.33
“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation but take courage; I have overcome the world.”
WORDS OF HOPE
Finding Peace
Peace has never been about what is happening on the outside, but rather, is a state of mind happening wholly within. Depression and anxiety do not only choose the gloomiest of days to appear but appear without discrimination on clear spring mornings or when it rains. The quality of the day does not determine our thoughts and emotions; however, it is our thoughts and emotions that determine the quality of the day. For a woman who is celebrating the birth of her newborn baby, the weather makes no difference of how she will remember the day.
She is not focused on the winds and the rain. Even the pain and exhaustion of labor cannot hold her back. A mother is in perfect peace when she is holding her baby for the first time. The storm has no strength when facing the strength of her heart. The mother is not looking out the window; she is looking out of her heart. Peace comes from the heart. Peace is the calm in the middle of the storm. We have no power to stop the seasons from changing. Our power is our ability to store up treasures in our hearts, and these treasures protect our peace.
Your memories of the one’s you are most fond of, the lessons that you carry and pass on, and anything worthy of your love are treasures. Our love for God along with God’s promises and teachings are priceless treasures that sustain us in dark and uncertain times. As we meditate on our treasures, not of metal or paper but on what we truly love, it brings us to peace. God promises to keep us at perfect peace when we focus on God. This is why we pray and sing songs of praise, because there is power within us when we are near our God.
PRAYER
Prince of Peace,
Send us Your peace. Put our hearts and minds at rest. The world has many pits to fall into and our days are filled with trouble. Guide our steps and relieve our hearts. Refresh us Lord with Your love. We ask for the perfect peace that comes only by being in Your intimate presence. With You we are not afraid. Teach us the mystery of Your ways. We love to be in Your presence. Walk beside us and we will be well. Bless the world and all herein to receive Your glorious peace. Amen.
