Psalm 103:13-14
As a [loving] parent cares for a child, so do you, my God, care for those who are yours. For you yourself know whereof we are made; you remember that we are but dust. [frail and finite].
WORDS OF HOPE
We are treated to a great number of Superhero movies these days. Audience members usually leave the theater after one of these spectacular stories feeling one of two ways: inspired to rescue and serve others or discouraged because of our own comparative frailty to the invincible star. Today’s verse from the Psalms is a special help on any day that finds us feeling less than a superhero and not able to manage all the comes our way.
Do you have days like that? Days when you feel overwhelmed by life's events. Maybe the uncertainties of his current changing time or maybe there is a recurring habit which you want to change. The natural response is to feel weak or a failure which may be translated into your spiritual life with an effect which dampens your communion with God.
In such moments, it is important to remember (and accept as truth) that we are creations of a God who fully understands our limitations as well as our potential. The Psalmist encourages us to never forget that as a wounded and fearful child might crawl up into the loving embrace of a parent, we can place our whole selves and our needs into the waiting arms of our all-sufficient and all-understanding God. Cuddle up there and rest in peace with assurance that each of us can live every day with extra divine strength.
PRAYER
O God, I give thanks to you for your steadfast love and present care in my life. I have so little that I can offer up to you in thanks, but here's my life and this day's opportunities. I offer them up to you. May your presence in my life this day allow me to be a faithful witness to others of your loving care for all people. Be so in me and fill me that I will reflect that divine love into this world. Amen.
