Hebrews 8:12
“For I will be merciful to their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.”
WORDS OF HOPE
I was on a deadline to finish a project, scrambling through my mind for ideas, and decided to jot down concepts I had used in the past. After reviewing, it seemed obvious the old ideas were outdated for this new endeavor, so I grabbed the eraser and began to blot them out. I remember thinking how I had made a mess of things, so I grabbed a clean sheet of paper instead of erasing it and began again with fresh new ideas. That’s when I thought about God and how old thoughts from my past that linger, pop their dark heads up occasionally, get in my thoughts and keep me from having peace.
So, I took a moment to write down some of those old thoughts, particularly the ones that often play like a loop in my head aiming to remind me of my assorted past. After several lines of writing, I realized I would need a “big” eraser to make all those things disappear.
There are some things that just seem more challenging to forget. Like my own irrevocable blunders or the wrongs done to me. I pray to let them go, feel good knowing God has forgotten, yet somehow, sooner or later, they come creeping back to flood my mind with emotions.
We recently celebrated the resurrection of Christ, God in the flesh, to be reassured of the new covenant, the new world where “ALL are forgiven, and ALL things are forgotten, no more memory of our past.” I love how God is forgiving and forgetful!
The pardon from God has been thrown into absolute oblivion, a total forgetting of all our past without need for further justifications to make right any wrong. God doesn’t brood over our past, or remembers anything, instead, any records have been taken away without judgment or memory. I’m the only one that keeps them alive!
PRAYER
Creator God, thank you for sending Jesus to erase any trace of evidence for past mistakes. Let us rest in the comfort of your forgiving, forgetting grace. In Jesus name, amen.
