Remembering Our Origin Stories
When we look at the origin stories presented in the scripture, we are reminded that we are people who have constantly wrestled with God to find our identity. As we journey through scripture, we are called to remember: Remember the faithfulness of God amidst the trials of the Israelites. Remember the promises fulfilled, the deliverance from bondage, and the provision in the wilderness. Remember that we are not alone, for the God who spoke to prophets and patriarchs continues to speak to us today. What can scripture teach us about struggling (with faith, with our sacred texts, with church) that helps us to remember that we are rooted in God’s love for us.

Embracing the Inspired Journey

Join us at the Cathedral of Hope United Church of Christ for a transformative six-week sermon series beginning the Sunday after Easter. Inspired by Rachel Held Evans' profound exploration in her book Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again, we invite our congregation to embark on a spiritual journey to reconnect with the Bible in fresh and meaningful ways. This series is an invitation to engage with Scripture through the lenses of curiosity, imagination, and faith, addressing current events and embodying our community values. Throughout this series, we aim to not only engage with difficult passages but also encourage the congregation to imagine, doubt, and debate Scripture’s mysteries. We hope to cultivate a space where questions are welcomed, and faith is deepened, reflecting the diversity and inclusivity at the heart of our community. Join us as we discover together that the Bible is not a static work meant to be taken at face value but a dynamic and living text that invites us into a deeper relationship with God and each other.
