Colossians 1:27
For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.
WORDS OF HOPE
Before phones and such, Victorian homes were equipped with bells attached to wire systems allowing residents, without leaving their room, to call for the support of a servant. Throughout society and cultures worldwide, a bell has symbolized a multitude of meanings and purposes. No matter the era or purpose, bells are continually used to gain attention.
I like to think of Jesus as our bell ringer to God. Christ lives in us and feels every approaching trial, pain, and adversity we face so when we need help, he pulls the chord that summons God. Jesus never rolls his eyes, complains because we are asking for something or disturbing his afternoon rest. Instead, he quickly and lovingly responds! Since Jesus has been in our shoes, being tested in every aspect, he has promised to answer our needs and now brings our requests to God. Jesus advocates on our behalf out of love.
The spirit of Christ intercedes for us, bears witness we are a child of God and is ever present, constantly working in our lives. No need to go searching for God, the spirit lives, and dwells within so our only requirement is to open the door and receive. What a wonderful feeling to know during the toughest times in life we are met with the spirit of Jesus acting on our behalf.
As my inner alarm goes off warning me of impending danger or I have fallen flat on my face, it is comforting to know when I pray for help, there’s an inner bell that goes off to which Jesus responds. I can’t think of a greater reason for hope than knowing the hardest moments of my life are met by the spirit of Christ! Jesus is enthusiastically advocating for my greater good and all I must do, is ring the bell of hope.
PRAYER
Creator God, as I falter on my journey, let me be quick to ring for Christ so others will witness the ways of your love. In Jesus name, Amen
