This guide is intended to help create effective web pages for our site.
Titles of Pages are H! Tags in HTML. This not only controls the size of the font but tells search engines this is important information.
Sub Headings are H2 tags. These will be a smaller font size and their designation tells search engines the information is of lesser importance but still noteworthy.
Sub-Subheads are H3 and H4 tags. Smaller fonts and lesser importance to search.
All images should have "alt tags" which describe what is in the image for visual impaired visitors using screen readers. They also tell search engines critical information that affects search results for images.
These are optimal guides for images within our site, however there is automatic resizing that may occur depending on the page template. All images should be 72dpi resolution.
Limit text on images since it is not readable by search engines.
Single column images (such as headers or backgrounds)
1900pxx1200px
Two column images - 575px width
Three column images - 377px width
Four column Images - 280px width
Ideally, we have a list of keywords that are included in text and image tags on each page.
Content is the most important part of the page. Should be rich in keywords and have good readable content for users and search engine.
A page description to go in the SEO fields in the webpage builder. These appear as Meta Tags on the actual code of the page and are used by some search engines to rank the page and provide users with relevant information.
Social Media images: These are images we provide for when the page is shared on social media. Usually, the first or most prominent image on the page is what is shared, but by providing a specific image we can control to an extent what shows up on the shares link.
Image Alt Tags: these allow search engines to understand what the images are and also for visually impaired browsers using screen readers.
Links to other pages or sites. These are both for navigation and SEO. Outbound links can help a page authority, but inbound links do much more. Those we cannot control.
Actionable Items: These are links or other actionable elements on the page that a user would be expected to engage with. This helps with page engagement as well as providing a more robust idea of how effective the page is working. Click-throughs = engagement!
In-Bound Links: These are beyond our control, but can be influenced by making sure affilliates and partners know of our site content and specific links. Search engines look for these to rank the authority of a page. Of all in-bound links, ".edu" links are most highly valued.
