1 Corinthians 13:13
“now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”
A Word of Hope
The Greatest Joy
Nothing compares to the gift of love. I hope for love, I dream of love, and I meditate on love. Love has shaped my thoughts and desires since the day I first formed my earliest memories. My mother would hug me, so tight, and it was as if the love from her very soul was being poured into me. Love was my first impression and my first gift. Naturally, I developed a taste for it. I discovered that the only thing comparable to receiving love was giving love. In this way, love becomes a dance with many partners moving to the rhythm of the heart.
Sometimes, when we feel alone, we forget how to dance. We forget that dancing requires taking a step the same way love does. My mother showed me the beauty of love and I have never seen her wanting love. She always got back what she gave in the same way she gave what she got from her mother. The first step is always the most difficult in the way that new things can be scary. Once you have the courage to dance, however, your body takes over and you groove to sounds no one else can hear. “Live with love,” that is what my heart tells me. Give when you are able, forgive while you can, be grateful, and always, move forward.
No matter how much love hurts because it is delayed or denied, to love and be loved will leave you celebrating in awe and amazement. God gave us hearts so that we would discover that the road to happiness lies in what we feel. Without love there can be no beauty, joy, or inner peace, for these things are distinctions of the heart, not the mind. To breath is to live, but to love is to be alive.
My mother wanted the best for me and said, “I love you,” every time she protected me, helped me, and wiped away my tears. I am my mother’s son and I have the same power as she, and I give it to you freely. This power is the knowledge of how to simply take the first step of a beautiful dance. The first step… is giving to others the love you want to see in the world.
Show us the greatest love. Take our hand and lead us onto the dance floor. Turn our walking into dancing. Bless You. Amen.
