CoH Weekly Newsletter November 16, 2017

This Sunday we will continue our theme as we remember our transgender siblings. The first Transgender Day of Remembrance was held on or around November 20th, founded in 1999 by Gwendolyn Ann Smith, a transgender woman, to memorialize the murder of transgender woman Rita Hester in Allston, Massachusetts. Tomorrow, Monday, November 20th is Transgender Day of Remembrance 2017, and we will hold a special community gathering in the Interfaith Peace Chapel. This is not a religious service, but rather a gathering to remember the more than 20 members of the transgender community who have been murdered this year alone.

While we mourn their loss to senseless violence and transphobia, we also celebrate the fact that, just a couple of weeks ago, five transgender candidates won seats in public office. We also pledge to stand with our transgender siblings in their efforts to move toward equality and inclusion, both within our church and in the wider community.

Remembering: Our Siblings

Rev. Erin Wyma

It is our “Season of Remembering” here at CoH and throughout this month we take time to honor and give thanks for lives lived that make a difference.

We have honored the “great cloud of witnesses”, those who have gone before us, and have given thanks for those who have impacted our lives for the better. We have remembered our Veterans and those who have served, throughout the world, in defense of peace, holding ourselves accountable for being peace-makers this Sunday.
